Burials from the Registers of Ovingham (1813-1837) show a burial that maybe this individual:

23 Oct 1817 Thomas White of Hedley aged 74

This record was close to the following burial record, also at Ovingham, and it seems reasonable to assume that this is the son Nicholas, as thedates and ages match, thus the residence for the family was probablyHedley and the two records support each other:

17 Jun 1818 Nicholas White of Hedley aged 44

These register entries were not from the original source, they aretransciptions of the record on gen_uki_com.

As can be seen, the records don't 'fit' that well, and these may bebirths of another Thomas.

Thomas married 2, 3 Sarah PIGG-1346 1 on 25 Feb 1776 in Warden,Northumberland,England.

They had the following children:

  64 M i Nicholas TEMPERLEY-13461 1 was born in 1777 in Graggshield,Haydon Bridge,NBL,Eng. He was christened 2 on 25 May 1777 in Haydon Bridge,NBL,Eng.

Matthew married 1, 2, 3 Anne HOGG-S-1.34.8 in 1783 in Scotland. They agreed on marriage contract 4 on 6 Feb 1783 in Spittal, Tweedmouth, NBL, Eng. They obtained a marriage license 5 on 6 Feb 1783 in Tweedmouth, NBL, Eng. Anne died after 1805.

They had the following children:

68 F i Ann TEMPERLEY-1.348.2 was born after 1783. She was christened on 6 Feb 1794 in Ebenezer Independent Chapel,Hexham,NBL,Eng. She died after 1805.

Mentioned in her father's will name at birth was used as of June, 1803and no amendments on date will proved, June 1805.

She may have possibly married Edward Mabbut, a Baptist minister fromShotley, at Hexham on 13 Jun 1811. Edward was the minister at ColdRowley Baptist in 1811.

26. William TEMPERLEY-X.34.9 (Nicholas#134 TEMPERLEY , Georgij OR George , Guliliemus or William ) was born about 1748. He died after 1815.

Was mentioned in father's will. Is not firmly established to the treegenealogically, therefor his ordinal begins with the letter x.

The descendants of Ann Temperley have firmly established her dates andhave attached her to William Temperley of Fallowfield, then HaydonBridge, then (in adulthood) to Smalesmouth in Simonburn, then toNewcastle by 1795 (According to directories as occupation whitesmith andbellmaker).

Ann Temperley was also firmly established as having resided in the St.Nicholas parish section of Newcastle after her marriage to John Thompson, and as can be seen in the genealogy that follows, the Presbyterianbaptisms do add some consistency.

It should be noted that from a genealogical perspective, since Williamhas no birth, marriage or death record, his link is speculative.Searching the siblings of Ann Temperley has also proved worthwhile.

The search for descendancy for all of his children continues. They beingNicholas, Ann, Elizabeth, possibly a deceased Ann since there were two,and William. William's parish register entry at Wall Knoll unfortunatelywas not very informative, as it listed just his name, date of baptism, and his father's name.

Haydon Bridge parish registers were famously uninformative until about1780, so only the entry for the first Ann is helpful because William'soccupation is listed as blacksmith. Helpful but problematic would be agood way to characterize this, as the baptism for Ann in 1777 is provento be the ancestor of the Thompson-Temperleys. Ann was baptized atFalstone Presbyterian Simonburn in June of 1777, father William'sresidence listed as Haydon Bridge, occupation again blacksmith.

The anchor record of the five appears to be that of Elizabeth, baptizedat yet another church in 1775, that being Falstone parish church. Inthis record, the mother's name is listed as Isobel, and the residencelisted as Smalesmouth!

The only consistent thread is the affiliation to Presbyterian churches, which was common among the congregationalists of the family. William'sbrother Matthew's marriage was indicative of the situation as hisPresbyterian marriage took place in Scotland, and Matthew insisted thatthe minister at Spittal pass his license along to the curate atTweedmouth.

William married Isabel UNKNOWN.

They had the following children:

+ 69 M i Nicholas TEMPERLEY-X.349.1
  70 F ii Ann TEMPERLEY-X.349.2 was christened in 1773 in Haydon Bridge,NBL,Eng.

To the extent these records are verifiable, unless this Ann was born ofanother William, she died young.
71 F iii Elizabeth TEMPERLEY-X.349.3 was born in SmalesMouth,Greystead Then Simonburn,NBL,Eng. She was christened on 20 Jan 1775 in Falston Parish Church,Falstone (then Chapelry Of Simonburn),NBL,Eng.

Possibly married Peter Wilkenson.

29. Henry TEMPERLEY-1.35.3 (John#135 TEMPERLEY , Georgij OR George , Guliliemus or William ) was christened 1 on 11 Jun 1752 in Bywell Saint Peter,NBL,Eng. He was buried on 4 Jun 1832 in St. Andrews,Hexham,NBL,Eng..

* * *

Mary Shipley apparently first married Mr. Height, as the marriage on theIGI is Henry Temperley m. Mary Height m. 2 Aug 1785 p. Chollerton, NBL,Eng

The Bishop Transcripts for Warden Parish, as it relates to the Birth ofHenry and Mary's daughter Ann:

Ann Temperley born 6th May 1798 baptised 27 th October 1798 Sixthdaughter of Henry Temperley native of Bywell St Peter by his wife MaryShipley daughter of Robert Shipley Farmer native of Barrisford in theParish of Chollerton.

While there is no christening on an original source showing on theIGI,there were several patron sheets submitted for a Mary Shipleychristened 9 Jul 1758 Chollerton, Northumberland, England. The mother'sname appeared on one of the sheets as Margaret KERKIP.

There did not appear to be a marriage record on the IGI for a MaryShipley marriage to a Mr. Height.

Reading the will of Mary Shipley-Height's mother, there appears to be aslight implication that Edward is not Mary's eldest child. The baptismdates seem to indicate that Edward would be the eldest. The will beingproved in 1801 indicates that Jane may have passed away. Residences ofEdward and Margaret Elizabeth are noted. It would appear that the 8thchild, a twin of the 7th child Frances, died young since he is notmentioned.

John obviously did not continue as ChurchWarden at Warden church that is why only Henry his brother appears tohave followed in his father's footsteps.

The above information also ties in with record extent of the Certificateof a Protestant meeting house at Allerwash 11th April 1815(Northumberland Record Office). Resident John Temperley. This is adocument registered in Quarter Sessions by John Scott, dissentingminister. John Scott also signed as Deacon of Ebenezer IndependantChapel, and signed many baptisms at that church.

Later, Elizabeth Jane Temperley would marry John Gray, who was apparentlythe attending minister at Ebenezer Independant also. Note that there aretwo John Gray's in the broader Temperley family tree.

To confirm the link, the will of Edward Temperley who died in 1809 (andis brother of John) states that he leaves his share of the farm atAllerwash to his brother John Temperley who he also appoints as a Trusteefor his wife and children.

[circa 1725]

The progenitor of the Hunstanworth lineage.

It is not known how or if for certain that George is linked to theFallowfield ancestral tree shown.

The lineages numbered with an 'x' represent the original unlinkedlineage, that of George, and are numbered to place on the chronology. The records that follow George ARE linked to George; the problem is theparentage for George is not yet extent, nor a birth record.

There are new records being discovered, and the rate of discovery isconsistent. As this file was opened in order to foster research, thesenotes are placed here to help narrow the search pattern, and assist inordering microfilm or other original sources. The parentage as posted ispurely speculative, and both parents are not known. Further, bothparents records would be a generation from the hypothetical link toThomas x.4.

The chronology is attached to the ancestral tree as a best estimate, andthe numbers represent a speculation of where George would fit ifhisrecord were proved.

Hunstanworth is at the top of a hill. At the bottom on one side theyhave mined lead or Fluorspar for hundreds of years, right up until moderntimes. On the other side they mined outcropping coal for much the sameperiod. It was very much the same at Fallowfield.

Miners employed by the Blackett-Beaumont lead mines in Weardale worked insmall teams, often comprised of family members. Each team negotiated abargain with the owners every three months or so in which was recordedthe work they were to do and how much they were to be paid. Details ofeach bargain were recorded in a Bargain Book.
