Adjustments to the calendar were made in 1751 and 1752, 1753 being thefirst year which conformed to the modern calendar. Until 1752 theofficial start of the year was the 25th March, not 1st January. The year1751 began on the 25 Mar 1751 and 1752 on the following 1st January. Theyear 1751 was therefore only about 8 months long. (Scotland had adoptedthe 1st January as the year start in 1600, before England and Scotlandwere united).Elizabeth married Edward COXON-S-1.1 1 son of Living on 1 Nov 1705. Edward was born 2 in Hexham,NBL,Eng. He was buried in Poss. Humshaugh,NBL,Eng.
The following haven't been verified, but it seems probable that theyarethe family and desc of Edward Coxon m. Elizabeth Temperley 1 Nov 1705:
There was (generation 1) an Edward COXAN baptised March 31st.1706atSt.John Lee. Father: Edward of Fallowfield.
Then (generation 2) there were three children baptised to an EdwardofLeadworks with familiar names, Edward 1738; Elizabeth 1740 & Ann1744.There was another Edward around at the time, who married a JaneProud, but his father was a Jasper.3 F ii Frances TEMPERLEY-12 was born in Fallowfield,Warden Prs,NBL,Eng. She was christened on 24 Aug 1677 in St. John,Lee prs,NBL,Eng.
Although the records are sometimes difficult to read, the name spellingfor Temperley has stayed very much the same, sometimes spelledTemperly, with some exceptions.
List of exceptions:
Temperlee -
1775 At Falstone Elizabeth baptism d/o Wm and Isabel
1708 At Hexham Frances marriage to John Wood,
& testament of George Temperlee (godfather of Frances and John'sfirstchild)
Temporal... - at Bywell c1750
Possibly two 'E's running together appeared as a straight line _._. ??
Tempereley - some recent (late 1800's) directories in the Hexham area.
Note that Frances was recorded twice for her marriage. Recorded atHexham as Temperlee, recorded at St. John Lee as Temperley. This isprobably because the curates were doing the spelling, and because of theadministrative arrangement between St. John Lee and Hexham, the event wasrecorded in two different registers at the same time.Frances married 1, 2 John WOOD on 2 May 1708 in Hexam,NBL,Eng. John was employed 3 as occupation of cordwainer. + 4 M iii Georgij OR George TEMPERLEY-1.3 + 5 M iv ThomasX.4. TEMPERLEY-X.4
